Job Description:
Job Roles & Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated contractor to join the Genomics Research Center and provide support for bioinformatics projects in the field of Ophthalmology and Specialty Medicine.
  • As a contractor, you will collaborate with a team of scientists and researchers to analyze and interpret large-scale genomics and transcriptomics datasets.
  • The responsibilities will include applying bioinformatics methods, statistical and machine learning techniques for drug discovery and basic disease biology investigations, and integrating data from various sources to gain insights into disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets.
  • Additionally, you will contribute to the design and execution of experiments, perform data quality control and validation, and contribute to the preparation of scientific reports.
  • The ideal candidate should have a strong background in bioinformatics and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis along with proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and collaboration abilities, are essential for success in this role

  • Required Skill 1: Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, R and should be comfortable with data manipulation, analysis, and visualization techniques.
  • Required Skill 2: Strong analytical skills: should have the ability to analyze large and complex biological, NGS datasets (transcriptomics/proteomics)., understand the underlying biological mechanisms, and interpret the results accurately.
  • Required Skill 3: Good communication skills to enable collaboration with other scientists and present research findings.
  • Required Skill 4: Knowledge of statistical methods such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing.
  • Required Skill 5: Knowledge of machine learning algorithms to perform data analysis and derive meaningful insights from biological data.

What years of experience, education, and/or certification is required?

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics or a related field, and 5+ years of experience post-PhD

What is a nice to have (but not required) regarding skills, requirements, experience, education, or certification?

  • Experience working in Linux/Unix environment, including job submission using High
  • Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
  • Experience analyzing additional ‘omic data sets (e.g. scRNA-seq, proteomics, pooled CRISPR screens, spatial transcriptomics).
  • Experience with gene ontology and pathway enrichment analysis.
  • Proficient in literature search to identify relevant public data sets to support and interpret internally generated results.
  • Experience with Limma and/or Dream for differential gene expression analysis with linear mixed models.
  • Experience managing project(s) involving multiple stakeholders and facilitating information exchange
