Job Description:
Job Roles & Responsibilities:

  • The GRC goal is to develop world-class genetics and genomics research focused on finding the right therapeutic targets and helping scientists better understand not only human disease biology but also the behavior and response to our drugs in clinical trials across all therapeutic areas.
  • The Functional Genomics team within the GRC provides expertise in genome editing and CRISPR technology to discover and validate novel drug targets for therapeutic pipelines in Immunology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Neuroscience.
  • We utilize cutting-edge genomic techniques to transform human genetics data into drug targets and to identify pathogenetic mechanisms.
  • We apply high-throughput functional genomic screening approaches to in vitro and in vivo preclinical models with diverse molecular and phenotypic readouts.
  • We focus on patient centric models, developing various tools utilizing induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived cell types.
  • We perform hypothesis-driven research for target validation and execute mechanistic studies utilizing these complex models.
  • We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and highly motivated Scientist to join our collaborative team of geneticists, molecular and cellular biologists, and computational biologists.
  • Applicants should have broad laboratory research experience using cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Open communication and curiosity are essential.
  • The candidate is expected to operate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary setting and must be able to execute multiple research projects in parallel.
  • This position requires consistent weekend and/or holiday work within the lab.
  • This position also requires performing administrative and managerial tasks within the lab, up to 25%.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cell culture work to maintain and expand cell lines, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)
  • Perform differentiation of iPSCs towards cell types of interest (e.g. retinal cells, immune cells)
  • Perform CRISPR/Cas functional genomics research based on lentiviral and RNP delivery methods
  • Participate in cross-functional target identification and validation projects to support early drug discovery efforts in immunology and ophthalmology
  • Develop cell-based functional assays relevant to disease biology
  • Perform arrayed and pooled CRISPR screens using fluorescent cell sorting and high content imaging assays
  • Collaborate extensively with scientists across diverse functional and therapeutic areas in a matrixed research environment
  • Communicate and present project designs and results clearly, both to individual stakeholders and in group settings
  • Perform routine managerial tasks within the lab, such as coordinating maintenance schedules, liaise with facilities sustain operations, organize lab-wide

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS, and/or PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or in a related discipline
  • BS with 5+ years’ experience in a lab setting, MS with 2+ years, or PhD with 0+ years’ experience in a lab setting, either within an industry and/or academic setting
  • Experience with in vitro cell culture, aseptic technique, and development of cell-based assays is required, minimum 1 year
  • Experience in flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and/or protein assays (e.g. ELISA, Western Blot) is expected, minimum 1 year
  • Experience in transfection, nucleofection, and viral transduction is a plus
  • Experience within immunology, neuroscience, and/or ophthalmology research is a plus
  • Knowledge or Experience in CRISPR systems is a plus
  • Ability to learn new skills and apply them in a fast-paced research environment is a must
  • Creativity, problem-solving, organizational skills, and attention to details are expected
