Duration: 12-18 Months (Possibility of Full-Time Conversion)

 

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe DB2 DBA to join our team supporting a large financial enterprise. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in Mainframe DB2 on z/OS, strong performance tuning capabilities, and the confidence to provide recommendations to fellow DBAs. This is not a heads-down, task-only role—we are looking for a thought leader with a deep understanding of DB2 internals, query optimization, and enterprise database architecture.

 

Must-Have Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience with Mainframe COBOL coding and DB2
  • Strong application DBA experience with emphasis on query tuning and performance
  • Expert-level knowledge of DB2 on z/OS, with a deep understanding of internals and utilities
  • Hands-on experience in DB2 performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of SMF Accounting data and DB2 performance reporting
  • Experience with QRep and CDC replication
  • Prior experience supporting a large financial enterprise

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide Mainframe DB2 database administrative support in a high-volume OS data sharing environment
  • Manage the full lifecycle of DB2 databases, from analysis through decommission
  • Participate in DB2 software upgrades (DB2 Database, DB2 Connect, BMC, Shadow)
  • Serve as a technical consultant to application teams for database design, availability, and recoverability
  • Translate business requirements into optimized physical DB2 models
  • Define and implement custom backup/recovery strategies
  • Ensure database security through collaboration on ACF2 and RACF access provisioning
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune system/database performance
  • Support DB2 upgrades, new features evaluation, and DBA remediation tasks
  • Participate in on-call rotation and SEV1 incident support
  • Support compliance efforts including SOX, audit, and control assessments
