Role Overview:
  • A canadian bank is seeking a skilled Application Support Developer to join our Toronto-based technology team for a 1-year contract, with a strong potential for a 1-year extension.
  • This critical role focuses on delivering hands-on support and development expertise for a portfolio of mission-critical applications, both in-house and vendor-supplied, that power our capital markets operations.
  • The primary responsibility is to ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of these systems by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues in real time.
  • The current support team excels at detecting issues but often lacks the technical depth to diagnose and remediate them effectively. As an Application Support Developer, you will bridge this gap by leveraging your strong coding and analytical skills, particularly in Go Language (Golang), to dive into codebases, debug problems, and implement robust fixes.
  • This role requires a balance of reactive support (Level 2/3 incident management) and proactive development (enhancements and patches) to maintain seamless operations in a high-stakes environment.
  • With interviews scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM EST, we are looking to fill this position ASAP to meet urgent business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Incident Management and Resolution: Manage and prioritize incident tickets, providing Level 2/3 application support to address disruptions swiftly, minimizing downtime for critical capital markets systems.
  • Issue Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Investigate issues in both proprietary and vendor applications, using diagnostic tools and code analysis to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Code-Level Debugging and Fixes: Perform in-depth code reviews and debugging in Golang to resolve bugs, optimize performance, and ensure system reliability, often under tight deadlines.
  • Application Enhancements: Develop and deploy enhancements, patches, and custom fixes for Line of Service (LOS) applications, aligning with business requirements and operational standards.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with business users, external vendors, and internal teams (e.g., developers, operations, and QA) to gather insights, resolve issues, and ensure system stability through effective communication.
  • Compliance and Operational Excellence: Maintain adherence to regulatory and operational standards in the capital markets domain, including proactive monitoring, alerting, and documentation of support activities to support auditability.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to a knowledge base by documenting resolutions, sharing best practices, and recommending process improvements to reduce recurring issues and enhance system resilience.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of combined experience in application support and software development, with a focus on production environments.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on proficiency in Go Language (Golang), including experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting scalable applications in production.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Exceptional problem-solving and debugging capabilities, with a proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in multi-tiered systems.
  • Application Support Experience: Demonstrated expertise in supporting and enhancing both in-house custom applications and third-party vendor solutions.
  • Capital Markets Exposure: Familiarity with capital markets environments, including trading platforms, financial data processing, or transaction systems, to understand the domain's unique demands.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders, coupled with the ability to work collaboratively in an on-site, team-oriented setting in Toronto.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle) for querying, data analysis, and integration tasks.
  • Experience with C/C++ programming, particularly for performance-critical or legacy system components.
  • Background in banking or financial services applications, with knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements in capital markets.
  • Familiarity with specialized platforms such as Base24 (payment processing), Sognex (real-time transaction monitoring or similar systems), or Tango (trade management or workflow tools).
  • Exposure to modern development practices, including containerization (e.g., Docker), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), or CI/CD pipelines, to support scalable deployments.
