Title: Substation Engineer
Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: 4x10 workweek — 10-hour, 4x per week with 3-day weekends
Salary: $100,000 – $170,000 base + bonus (depending on experience)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3x office, 1x remote per week

About the Opportunity
Due to a significant increase in greenfield substation engineering projects, we’re expanding our Houston-based engineering team. This role will focus on the design and delivery of high-voltage substations (34.5kV to 500kV) — critical infrastructure driving grid reliability and modernization.
This position offers the opportunity to work on new-build (greenfield) projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating closely with design and protection/control engineers.
Responsibilities

Lead and support substation design activities for high-voltage (34.5kV–500kV) projects

Prepare and review schematic diagrams, wiring drawings, layouts, and grounding designs

Perform load flow, short circuit, and relay coordination calculations

Collaborate with project managers, civil/structural engineers, and field teams to ensure quality deliverables

Ensure compliance with NESC, ANSI, IEEE, AISC, and ACI standards

Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with CAD/design staff
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (required)

3–10+ years of substation design experience (greenfield preferred)

Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation

Strong understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems

Experience with protection & control design a plus

Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
