Job Title: Mainframe DB2 DBA Programmer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe DB2 DBA with strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise-scale environments. This role goes beyond routine database administration; you will be expected to provide technical leadership, performance analysis, and strategic recommendations to technical and application teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide DB2 database administrative support for high-volume mainframe applications in an OS Data Sharing environment.
• Manage full database lifecycle from planning, implementation, upgrades, change management, and decommissioning.
• Support production environments with focus on performance tuning, stability, and high availability.
• Participate in and execute DB2-related z/OS upgrades, including vendor product updates.
• Collaborate with application teams to translate business and performance requirements into scalable database designs.
• Define and manage database security (ACF2 / RACF) and ensure proper data access provisioning.
• Implement and manage backup, recovery, HA/DR, and secured access strategies.
• Provide expert consultation to developers on DB2 best practices, debugging, SQL tuning, and access patterns.
• Participate in on-call rotation (24×7) and support production incidents including SEV1.
• Support internal and external audits (SOX, security, controls, compliance).
• Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and mentor junior DBAs or development teams as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of Mainframe DB2 DBA experience on z/OS
• Strong COBOL coding experience specifically with DB2
• Proven background in query tuning, troubleshooting, and DB2 internals
• Experienced in large-scale financial environments
• Ability to interpret and work with performance reports, tuning metrics, and internal DB2 behavior

Experience with:

• DB2 Connect
• BMC Tools (Change Manager, Catalog Manager, MainView, SQL Performance)
• Shadow products

Nice to Have (Bonus):

• Deep understanding of DB2 internals and z/OS performance characteristics
• Experience working with multi-tenant large data environments
• Knowledge of enterprise data governance and compliance frameworks

Compensation:

Hourly Rate: $60 – $65 per hour

This range reflects base compensation and may vary based on location, market conditions, experience, and candidate qualifications.
