Must have hands-on experience with major WAF vendors, such as:
- Akamai (Kona Site Defender / AAP)
- Cloudflare
- Imperva
- AWS WAF
- F5 ASM
- Creating and tuning WAF signatures/rules
- Reducing and eliminating false positives
- Implementing Layer 7 protections:
- DDoS mitigation
- Rate limiting
- Bot protections
- API security
- Understanding how application flow interacts with WAF policies
- Must understand DNS and how it works
- Familiarity with global or local load balancers
- Awareness of Layer 3 concepts (routing, switching, IP-based traffic) — but focus is Layer 7
