Title: Mechanical Design Engineer II
Location: Westborough, MA
Duration: 3 Months (With Possibility of Extension)
Pay Range: $38 - $42/Hr
 
Job Description:
Required Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing, building, and modifying test fixtures and rigs
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electromechanical systems
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, test execution, and rapid design iteration
  • Practical experience using and integrating measurement tools and sensors, including:
  • Accelerometers
  • Load cells
  • Strain gauges
  • Force, torque, displacement, or position sensors
 
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience working on robotic or mechatronic systems, including actuators, joints, linkages, and structural assemblies
  • Familiarity with DAQ systems and test software (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test data to identify trends, failure modes, and design improvements
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods, including 3D printing, machining, and off-the-shelf components
  • Exposure to production-intent designs, tolerancing, and manufacturability considerations
  • Experience using engineering project and task management tools (JIRA, Asana, or similar)
 
Task Breakdown and Workflow:
  • Support the development and validation of robotic hardware
  • Focus on test fixture design and fabrication, sensor instrumentation, and execution of mechanical and electromechanical testing for robotic subsystems and assemblies
  • Work directly with hardware in a lab environment (has to quickly diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve real-world mechanical issues)
 
Top 3 Must Have Hard Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, test execution, and rapid design iteration
  • Strong communication, documentation, and data reporting skills.
