Key Responsibilities
Role overview:
- We are seeking a Security Engineer with an electrical focus to support hardware security validation and compliance reviews for prototype and pre-production devices. This role does not involve designing circuits or hardware systems.
- The engineer will review hardware designs, validate physical security controls, and test devices to ensure compliance with privacy and security requirements. The focus is on security assessment, testing, and compliance, not design ownership.
- Candidates must have both hardware and security experience. Electrical or hardware engineers without security review or assessment experience will not pass the interview.
- This role operates in a fast-paced enterprise environment and includes regular virtual engagement with international suppliers.
Day to Day:
- Conduct hardware and security design reviews (review only; no design ownership)
- Validate privacy-critical hardware behavior (e.g., mic power cutoffs, isolation)
- Perform hands-on hardware security testing on prototype devices
- Use lab equipment to identify physical security risks and compliance gaps
- Sample devices to ensure manufacturing and security compliance
- Participate in virtual compliance and design reviews with global suppliers
- Collaborate with internal engineering, compliance, and security teams
- Document findings for internal leadership and external stakeholders
- Consultants will be interfacing primarily with teammates or partners in Asia.
Must Haves:
- 5+ years of experience in hardware security, embedded systems security, or similar. Knowledge of embedded security- how it’s used for enhancing security.
- Experience designing, testing, and analyzing circuit designs and PCB layouts
- Knowledge of threat modeling, secure boot implementations, and cryptography (RSA, AES, HMAC, PQC)
- Experience with manufacturing security processes, including secret provisioning and secure production flows
- Hands-on experience testing, debugging, or hacking hardware using common electronics test equipment.
- Hands-on experience with common test equipment: Oscilloscopes, multimeters, microscopes, logic analyzers, soldering.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
- Experience writing technical documents, project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders
- Experience working in enterprise or fast-paced environments
- Proven experience engaging with external stakeholders or suppliers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Plusses:
- This work may require access to a facility that handles ITAR controlled information.
- Experience working with external partners in APAC region
- Master's degree in relevant technical field or equivalent advanced experience
- Knowledge of side-channel attack analysis and associated countermeasures
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures, especially automated quality inspection techniques
- Experience writing technical documents, project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders
- Knowledge of debug interface security (JTAG, BDM), anti-rollback mechanisms, and fault injection protection
- Experience programming in at least one modern language such as C, C++, or Rust
