Job Description:
- Recruits, interviews, checks references, makes offers, and conducts orientation for new employees.
- Performs exit interviews and processes change of employee status. May require a bachelor's degree and at least 5 to 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
What the Hiring Manager Is Looking For
- Strong SDE Hiring Experience
They want someone who has consistently hired Software Development Engineers (SDEs), not general tech hiring. The focus is on:
- Backend SDEs
- Engineers with solid system design exposure
- Candidates working across modern backend stacks
- The recruiter should be comfortable discussing technical concepts with candidates and understanding engineering dept
- Tech Stack Understanding
The recruiter must understand backend ecosystems such as:
- Java, Python, C++
- Distributed systems
- APIs and microservices
- Data structures and algorithms
- The expectation isn’t coding ability, but the ability to screen effectively and have credible conversations with engineers and hiring managers.

- Independently managing requisitions
- Owning full-cycle recruiting

- Delivering against hiring targets with minimal supervision
- Ideal Candidate Profile
The manager expects someone who:
- Has 4–5 years of focused tech recruiting experience
- Has closed backend SDE roles recently
- Understands technical evaluation frameworks
- Can manage hiring managers confidently
- Is metrics-driven and delivery-focused
Typical Day in the Role:
- Sourcing role. Will own reqs and work with hiring managers as primary point of contacts.
- Will work on more complex sources. Specialized roles. Technical customer facing role. Going after high level passive talent. Going after executive level candidates. Tough to fill, niche roles. Do not need high volume standardized sourcing.
- Likely to extend and/or convert to FTE.
Candidate Requirements:
- Leadership principles: Deliver Results, Learn and Be Curious, and Bias for Action.
- KPI’s: 2-3 hires/month dep. On what they are working on. Some funnel metrics will be considered.
- Sets a candidate apart if they are familiar with this space, these types of roles, supports hiring for niche roles/for startups/cloud customer facing engineering space.
- Red flags: Job jumping is a big red flag for this role. Want to see longevity.
