Job Description:
Job Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Seeking a skilled synthetic organic chemist to perform synthesis research and provide analytical support for clinical chemistry assay technologies.
  • The candidate must possess strong synthetic organic skills and innovative thinking, as well as good written and communication skills.
  • Candidate must be familiar with current techniques in the scientific literature.
  • Successful candidate will conduct advanced research related to synthetic organic chemistry, characterize compounds via spectroscopic techniques (1H- and 13C NMR, UV-Vis, LC/MS, and HPLC), accurately communicate scientific observations to teams, and recommend strategies for future experiments.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical review, direction, and feedback to others. Conducts advanced research
  • Designs and executes experiments leading to the development and implementation of synthetic organic targets; applies advanced multi-disciplinary analytical techniques to characterize synthetic constructs.
  • Analyzes data from multiple experiments, formulates conclusions and determines future experiments
  • Integrates data and identifies critical process variables
  • Documents experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines
  • Facilitates process transfer and training at sites of manufacture
  • Participates in lab safety
  • Expertise and Problem Solving: Establishes criteria and technical standards for excellence; anticipates, recognizes, and resolves technical problems
  • Identifies new directions for research
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system

  • Designs and conducts experiments, accomplishes established milestones and summarizes data, interprets, results and draws conclusions.
  • Evaluates data using analytical methodologies to achieve results.

  • Expertise and Problem Solving: Identifies technical alternatives.
  • Utilizes multiple analytical instruments.
  • Anticipates, recognizes and resolves technical problems.
  • Lab Safety: Participates in lab safety.
  • Documentation: Appropriately documents experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines.

Position Accountability / Scope:

  • Accountable across functional areas/programs within division.
  • Contributes to project plan.
  • Responsible for project completion.

Minimum Education:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or B.S./M.S. with equivalency
  • Equivalency to Ph.D. defined as ability to hypothesize, design own experiments, draw conclusions and provide direction.

Minimum Experience / Training:

  • Basic Computer Skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Organic chemistry and multiple analytical techniques/instruments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD 0-2 years’ experience in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry; or BS/MS with equivalent work experience.
  • Candidate must have experience and understanding of synthetic chemistry techniques and purification methodologies, e.g. flash column chromatography, HPLC (reverse phase and normal phase) as well as analytical techniques (NMR, LC-MS, and UV-Vis).
  • Experience with process chemistry, reaction optimization, and the ability to scale up reactions from theoretical and practical evaluations a plus.
  • Experience should include broad knowledge of modern organic chemistry and synthetic methods including multi-step synthesis as well as analytical techniques of small molecules.
  • Experience in chemical database searching a plus.
  • Candidates should work well in a team environment.
