Lead Systems Engineer – Systems Monitoring

The Operations Center is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support Systems Monitoring initiatives for multiple Statements of Work (SOWs) in 2025 and beyond. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering software tools for systems and application monitoring, with expertise in at least one monitoring tool, such as DataDog.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, configure, and maintain DataDog on a Linux platform.
  • Oversee network monitoring, infrastructure/server monitoring (Linux, AIX), application monitoring, SNMP, and log monitoring using DataDog.
  • Configure centralized logging from various sources (e.g., WebSphere, Tomcat, IHS WebServers on AIX servers) to DataDog on Linux.
  • Create dashboards with data visualization in DataDog.
  • Administer DataDog APM on Linux, ensuring Java application instrumentation, setting up health rules, and fine-tuning monitoring.
  • Implement End-User Monitoring (EUM) / Browser Real User Monitoring (RUM) via JavaScript injection.
  • Develop Selenium scripts for business transaction monitoring using CloudBeat’s Synthetic Monitoring.
  • Provide support for critical production issues, including analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting key findings with recommended solutions.
  • Maintain and document DataDog tools, creating training materials for tool usage, processes, and procedures.
  • Analyze tool data and usage, providing weekly updates to management on potential concerns.
  • Collaborate with Systems and Application Architecture teams to ensure monitoring requirements are integrated early in the development process.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure monitoring of new applications before production release.

Required Skills:

  • DataDog administration experience on a Linux platform.
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure monitoring, network monitoring, and centralized logging.
  • Red Hat Linux background.
  • Automation experience with scripting (Python, Python, Ansible preferred).
  • Understanding of SSL setup on Linux servers.
  • Experience with network monitoring and components such as:
    • Switches, Routers, , SNMP utilization, F5 Load Balancers, Ansible , InfoBlox, Gigamon, and Network Mapping.
  • Familiarity with other monitoring tools like CloudBeat and CloudBeat (Synthetic Monitoring) is a plus.

Education Qualification:

  • Bacholers / Masters 

Pay: $65 - $77 per hour
