DayToDay Responsbilities:
Core Technical Skills
Content Delivery Network (CDN) Expertise
- Cloudflare Knowledge (Even a basic knowledge of working on one of the 2 products is fine):
- Configuration and optimization of caching rules, edge settings, security policies, and web application firewalls (WAFs).
- Understanding API integrations, DNS management, custom caching, and performance optimization for both platforms.
- Knowledge of handling parallel CDN strategies, including active-active and active-passive setups.
- Familiarity with CDN logs, error handling, and traffic steering techniques.
Cloud Infrastructure (AWS)
AWS Core Services:
- EC2, S3, Route 53, and IAM for resource provisioning and security.
- API Gateway for handling REST API endpoints.
- CloudFormation or Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
AWS Networking:
- VPC, Security Groups, and Network ACLs for secure configurations.
- Knowledge of Global Accelerator for improving availability and performance across multiple AWS regions.
AWS Load Balancing:
- Elastic Load Balancer (ALB/NLB): Configuring listener rules, target groups, and health checks.
- Understanding of AWS multi-region deployments and how to leverage load balancing across them.
Kubernetes (EKS on AWS or Self-Managed)
- Deploying and managing containerized applications using EKS or self-hosted Kubernetes clusters.
- Configuring ingress controllers (like NGINX or Traefik) for routing traffic from CDNs.
- Managing service discovery, load balancing, and secrets (like API keys for Cloudflare).
- Implementing Helm charts for application deployments.
- Knowledge of Horizontal Pod Autoscaling (HPA) and rolling updates.
API Integration & Management
- Designing and managing REST APIs that allow the control plane to interact with both CDNs.
- Creating middleware to abstract API differences between Cloudflare.
- Secure API integration using OAuth2, JWTs, and API tokens.
- API rate limiting, logging, and error handling.
Load Balancing Strategies
- Implementing DNS-based load balancing (using Route 53 or external solutions) to direct traffic across CDNs.
- Configuring Weighted Routing Policies for traffic distribution.
Understanding Failover Routing to switch traffic if one CDN faces downtime. - Deploying and configuring Application Load Balancers to route traffic internally.
Development & Automation Skills
Programming Languages:
- Python, Go, or Node.js for developing the control plane and API integrations.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
- Using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate deployments.
CI/CD Pipelines:
- Experience with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline for automating testing and deployments.
Automation:
- Scripting in Bash, Python, or using AWS Lambda for serverless automation.
Security Skills
- Securing APIs with authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Understanding of SSL/TLS certificates for secure CDN and API traffic.
- Applying WAF rules (both on AWS and CDN platforms) to protect against common vulnerabilities.
- Managing secrets and configurations securely using tools like AWS Secrets Manager.
