Title: Software Dev Engineer II (Data Migration)
Location: Bellevue, WA
Duration: 12 Months (With Possibility of Extension/Conversion)
Pay range: $45 - $50/Hr
 
Job Description:
Mission:
To replicate the data center in Ireland, then plan, test, and deploy the migration in one swift move so that the migration is not detected by any external customers or users.
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Plan & Assess: Analyze existing Java & Kotlin services, identify dependencies, and define a migration strategy to ensure seamless cutover.
  • Update Code & Infrastructure: Modify applications to remove region-specific dependencies, update AWS CDK configurations, and deploy services in the new data center.
  • Database & Storage Migration: Ensure real-time data replication (DynamoDB, S3, RDS), prevent data loss, and verify consistency between data centers.
  • Testing & Validation: Conduct performance testing, failover simulations, and load balancing checks to guarantee system stability post-migration.
  • Deployment & Cutover Preparation: Implement CI/CD pipelines, validate rollback mechanisms, and finalize traffic switching strategies.
  • Real-Time Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Oversee the migration process, detect anomalies, and resolve potential downtime or performance issues.
  • Post-Migration Optimization & Documentation: Analyze performance metrics, optimize AWS costs, deprecate old resources, and document lessons learned.
 
Must-Have Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience doing a data migration project from start to finish!
 
Technical Skills:
  • Java (3-5+ years of experience).
    • Candidates with more experience must have recent hands-on coding experience.
  • Kotlin
  • AWS CDK (EC2, Lambda, Etc.)
  • DynamoDB
  • Strong testing and validation skills
  • Familiarity with networking
  • Familiarity with hardware & software integration

Preferred (Plusses):
  • Experience working with software that interacts on the edge (hardware-integrated systems).
  • Experience with a LARGE data center migration
